Propagate a String of Buttons, Crassula perforata
It is very easy to propagate a String of Buttons, Crassula perforata as this video shows. The plant has severe root rot and the grower wants to save it in a sense by taking cuttings and propagating new plants. The Crassula perforata or String of Buttons is a great looking succulent that is easy to propagate and care for.
Well good morning everyone. Okay so today this is what I’m up to. Let me see, this little plant, ever since my daughter got it for me, it was it looks very sad very diseased. And I suspected it had mealy bug so I sprayed it with a mixture of water alcohol and dish soap. And pretty much that seemed to take care of it.
I could see some areas where I mean it was damaged because of the hail. You could see that it’s got scarring. I’m not quite ready to give up on this one. This is a cutie so what I’m doing today. Yes I am snipping, I’m using these instead of my way cooler gardening ones because you know I want to be able to sterilize them. I don’t want to in case it has something. I don’t want any other plants to get damaged.
Propagating String of Buttons, Crassula perforata,
But basically throwing away the root ball. I can’t be sure these are worth it. What I’m gonna be doing is sticking these back in dirt. I’m gonna use another dirt mix for another you know. This dirt I’ll just go ahead and throw away this whole dirt because in case it did have some type of an infestation I don’t want it to pollute the new growth.
You go for the new clippings you know. I don’t think maybe I should. It doesn’t look too healthy so I’m not even willing to. I was thinking maybe I should leave this clip and see what it gives me. Maybe they’ll start sprouting a bunch of new ones here but hmm, I don’t trust this dirt anymore. I think it might be polluted so, or not polluted well yeah polluted, with infestation insects or something, fungus. So I’ll go ahead and dispose of that dirt you know and reuse this pot but I’m gonna sterilize it.
And yeah I’m just gonna stick these clippings back in the dirt. What I’ll do is I will take off leaves, like leave like an inch or an inch and a half, see there. And take off all those little leaves and then just stick the little stem in the dirt and then see where it goes.
You just put it somewhere where it gets bright light but not direct sun until they get happier and we’ll see what happens.
I don’t see any mealy bugs or anything on it and I could see that it’s, I’m sorry about that trying to get this to focus, I can see that it’s got new growth, see got some new growth on the tip. Focus, there you go, so that’s pretty awesome all right.
So I’ll update you and see what happens with this Crassula perforata ‘Variegata’. Talk to you later.
